My role
- Unifying two data models into one dashboard — I structured the platform so marketing and patient management data could live side by side without creating a confusing, overloaded interface — clear separation at the navigation level, shared context where it mattered.
- Building the design system — Rather than designing screens in isolation, I built reusable components and design foundations upfront, keeping the product visually consistent as it grew and speeding up development.
- Defining the app’s information architecture — I translated UX research findings — the pain points and mental models of dental teams — directly into the app’s navigation and interaction patterns, designing for the real user rather than an idealised one.
- Delivering a production-ready application — I owned the process through to a shipped product that met both business objectives and the user needs identified in research.
The problem
Dental practices were managing marketing and patient data across disconnected tools, creating operational friction and making it difficult to get a clear view of both business and patient outcomes. Trackable needed to bring these two worlds together in a single platform — without overwhelming users with complexity.
Challenges and Goals
Transform a complex, research-driven concept into a user-friendly web application that dental practices could adopt quickly — balancing usability with the technical depth the product required.
Approach
I started by establishing the design foundations before building features — defining the component library, visual language, and core interaction patterns that would underpin the entire product. Working closely with the UX researcher, I translated research insights into concrete user flows and interface structures, ensuring every design decision was grounded in how dental teams actually work.
Impact
Delivered a fully functional, production-ready web application that bridged the gap between marketing and patient management for dental practices. The upfront investment in design foundations and a shared component library reduced duplication, kept the product consistent, and gave the development process a clear, shared reference point throughout.
Reflection
Taking ownership of both design and development from day one reinforced how much the foundation matters. Getting the design system and app architecture right early — before features start accumulating — is what allows a product to scale without fragmenting. The closer the collaboration with UX research, the less rework happens downstream.
