My role
- Designing the AI-powered chatbot — Designed a conversational assistant to help users navigate daily investment decisions, reducing reliance on manual data interpretation and lowering the cognitive load of parsing complex data alone.
- Designing the data visualization system — Replaced dense data tables with purpose-built charts that surface the most important insights first, reducing scan time and speeding up decision-making. Simplified layouts and grouped related information to lower cognitive load, while balancing clarity and depth — giving users access to deeper data without overwhelming the main experience.
- Building a consistent UI system — Built a structured component library and design framework to ensure visual and interaction consistency across both platform tiers.
- Collaborating across teams — Worked closely with developers and the product manager throughout implementation to ensure design intent translated accurately into the final product.
The problem
Professional traders needed to process large volumes of complex financial data quickly, but existing tools made this slow and cognitively demanding.
Information was dense, poorly structured, and required significant effort to interpret — forcing users to spend time analyzing data instead of making decisions.
Challenges and Goals
Design an interface that makes complex financial data easier to understand and act on — enabling faster, more confident decision-making without overwhelming users.
Approach
I focused on simplifying complexity through structure, hierarchy, and clarity — ensuring key insights are immediately visible while still supporting deeper analysis when needed. The goal was to reduce cognitive load without stripping out the depth that professional traders rely on.
Reflection (What I learned)
Designing for professional traders reinforced that simplification is not about removing information — it’s about revealing the right information at the right moment. The hardest decisions weren’t about what to design, but what to de-emphasise. Strong information hierarchy, combined with close collaboration with the development team, was what made the difference between a product that looked clean and one that actually worked under real trading conditions.
